![]() To any artists that want to make their music free to use: The reason there are disputes on my content at all is the unfortunate reality that anyone anywhere can issue a strike right now for any music. If you use my music be sure to let me know so I can check out what you did and help share it, but also if you run into any issues there's a general permission / license on my website for disputes which people have reported has worked nicely for them. Some artists (like me) allow their music to be freely used in exchange for linking to artist profiles and catalogs (Spotify / Apple Music). I used to run mixes on my channel but had to remove them all because too many people were auto striking things and it was taking a long time to resolve the disputes and very negatively impacted the channel. It's safest to use songs that won't have automatic ContentID, since you're much less likely to have issues. A couple things to note though, the more claims against your video you get the more difficult disputes will be and the more likely you are to have your channel shut down. This is where your signed contract with come into play.īest to get permission upfront from artists by signing something, as that will probably lead to the fastest dispute turn around times. You'll need some form of license or acknowledgment from the artist to successfully dispute the copyright claim. In both cases you'll have to dispute the claim, which you can do from within YouTube Studio itself. If they haven't signed up, then you won't get a strike until someone manually submits a claim / report (this can be done by anyone, not just the artist). If the artist has enabled ContentID matching for their music, you'll get automatic copyright strikes against the video usually resulting in demonetizing. ![]() It depends on how the music was released.
